Personal Safety for Women
The City of Carbondale Police Department offers Personal Safety classes for women. The classes, which are geared toward sexual assault prevention, are designed to teach women prevention and precaution methods and how to escape from an attack should one occur.
The class consists of a lecture, which focuses on alertness prevention, precaution, and preparation. Two hands-on workshop sessions are a part of the curriculum during which students will learn techniques for escaping from an attacker. Classes are taught by officers from the City of Carbondale Police Department who are certified as Pressure Point and Control Tactics Instructors.
Participants must be at least 13 years of age. Persons under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or other adult and have a release signed by a parent. Class size is limited to 20 participants, and the classes fill quickly, so call as soon as possible. We encourage women who have taken the class previously to sign up for the workshop sessions as a refresher course.
Class times vary throughout the calendar year and are free of charge.
