On 05-09-18 at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 700 block of East College Street regarding an attempted abduction that had just occurred in the in 1000 block of East College Street. Officers met with a female in her early teens and her mother. Officers learned that while walking to school on the north side of East College Street, the juvenile female saw a male near the apartment complex on the south side of the street (The Fields Apartments, 700 South Lewis Lane). The male called out to her, but she ignored him. The male then ran across the street and grabbed her around the waist. She struggled against his hold, and was able to get away from him. The suspect then quickly crossed College Street, disappearing from her sight behind a building on the west side of the Fields Apartments complex. The female returned home to contact police.
