Homicide Investigation Update

On 02-15-18 at approximately 11:26 p.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the rear parking lot at 409 East Mill Street in reference to reports of gunshots. The investigation eventually revealed two victims with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was identified as Brandon L. Brooks, age 35 of Carbondale. Brooks did not survive the injuries he received as a result of the incident. The name of the second victim is not being released at this time. The incident appears to be a dispute between acquaintances. No other information is available for release at this time. The investigation is currently active. Homicide
On 02-15-18 at approximately 11:26 p.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 400 Block of East Mill Street in reference to reports of gunshots. The investigation eventually revealed two victims with gunshot wounds. One of the victims suffered fatal wounds and the other victim was taken to a St. Louis area hospital with life threatening wounds. The victim with life threatening wounds was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of West Main Street and North Illinois Avenue while en route to the hospital for treatment of the gunshot wounds. The involved parties in the traffic crash suffered non-life threatening injuries. The gunshot victims are not being identified at this point in the investigation. The investigation is currently active. There is not any suspect information to provide at this time.
