Home Invasion and Child Abduction Arrest

On 09-04-17 at about 11:30 a.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to a residence in the 1100 block of East Walnut Street in reference to a report of a home invasion and possible child abduction. Upon arrival, officers learned that the non-custodial father of a child inside the residence had been in a dispute over the child with an occupant of the residence.  The man forced open a door and battered an individual inside the apartment. He then took custody of his child and left the area in a vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, officers located the child within an hour, in Carbondale, safe and unhurt. Officers arrested the father, Demareonte Jones of Sacramento, California in connection with the incident.  Jones was charged with home invasion, criminal damage to property and interfering with a 9-1-1 call.  He was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.

Officers were assisted in the investigation was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Police Department at (618) 457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at (618) 549-COPS (2677).
