Unlawful Use of a Weapon & Armed Robbery Investigation

07-30-14 Web Release –Unlawful Use of a Weapon & Armed Robbery Investigation

On 07-27-14 at about 3:30 p.m., the City of Carbondale Police Department received a report of an armed robbery which had just occurred in the 500 block of East Willow Street. Officers learned the victim was approached by the suspect, who demanded his personal property while brandishing a handgun.  During the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Timothy T. Thomas. On 07-29-14 at around 8:00 p.m., Thomas was apprehended by Carbondale police officers in the area of North Robert A. Stalls and East Chestnut Street.  Thomas was charged with Armed Robbery and incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  Two other individuals at the scene of the original incident, Phillip D. Howard and Sharika P. Smith, were both arrested and incarcerated on active arrest warrants from Alexander County.  The investigation into the incident is continuing.
