02-13-14 Aggravated Battery with a Firearm Investigation-Update

In reference to the Aggravated Battery with a Firearm in the 200 block of North Oakland Avenue on 01-27-14, the City of Carbondale Police arrested Omar A. Tinsley on 02-13-14.  Tinsley had an outstanding arrest warrant for Aggravated Battery with a Firearm with a bond of $500,000.  Tinsley was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  The investigation continues.

Prior Releases:

On 01-27-14, the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 200 block of North Oakland Avenue for a report of shots fired.  During the course of the investigation it was determined that during an altercation between acquaintances, a gun was discharged near the entrance to the parking lot of Carbondale Community High School's Rebound Facility, which is located in one of the buildings on the site of the former high school.  The victim in this case suffered a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment.  The victim was the father of a student of the facility and two students were identified as the suspects in the altercation, which occurred near the facility.  Carbondale investigators are currently seeking an arrest warrant for the first suspect, who was alleged to have discharged the firearm.  As soon as the warrant is obtained, his identity will be released.  The second suspect, a 17-year-old black male juvenile, has been taken into custody.  Standard school protocol was followed at both the Rebound facility and the main campus, which was placed on lock down until it was determined no other students were endangered.  The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

01-28-14 Aggravated Battery with a Firearm Investigation-Update

The primary suspect in this incident has been identified as Omari A. Tinsley.  An arrest warrant has been obtained for Tinsley, charging him with Attempted 1st degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.  The bond on the warrant has been set at $500,000.
