Unlawful Use of a Weapon Investigation

05-03-13 Web Release –Unlawful Use of a Weapon Investigation

On 05-03-13 at 1:55 a.m., officers of the City of Carbondale Police Department were in the area of the 700 block of East Grand Avenue and received information that an individual inside a vehicle was in possession of a handgun.  As the officers approached the vehicle, one of the occupants fled on foot, but was captured after a short foot pursuit and arrested. A handgun was recovered during the incident. The subject, identified as Christopher A. Mitchell, was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting, No FOID, Underage Consumption of Alcohol, and False ID.  Mitchell was transported to the Jackson County Jail and incarcerated. Several individuals are known to have witnessed this incident but have not spoken with the police at this time. The Carbondale Police Department is requesting anyone who may have witnessed this event to contact the police department at 618-457-3200.
