The Carbondale Police Department offers Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) to local schools. The program is designed to reduce drug abuse and build positive relationships with kids in the community.

Trained D.A.R.E. officers visit fifth and sixth grade classes in Carbondale. With the teacher's assistance, D.A.R.E. officers teach important lessons about avoiding drugs, gangs and violence to our area youth. The officers always look forward to teaching D.A.R.E. and being able to interact with the youth of our community. D.A.R.E. graduations are important events, which include City officials, community members and family. Diplomas are awarded with a reception to follow.

This program is a community supported, collaborative effort. The D.A.R.E. Board of Directors, composed of various community leaders, manages funding and oversight of the program.
